National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has issued an apology to Togbe Afede XVI over his recent ‘’palm wine’’ comments.
The national chair came under pressure to apologise over the attacks on the traditional ruler when he made remarks over the decision by the former legislator to purchase some 275 buses for the NPP.
The President of the House, Togbe Afede XVI, who is also the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, in recent comments said the move by Freddie Blay deepens the corruption perception. Togbe Afede further urged chiefs to help address the worsening perception and incidence of corruption in the country.
“Let me say that the frequency of corruption at elections is worrying; because that sequence itself suggests the lack of trust and lack of transparency…. And I think that we all have to work hard to minimize the frequency of perceptions of corruption and corruption.
Nananom [Chiefs] should lead the fight and should talk for transparency,” he said. Mr Blay reacting to the chief used the ‘’palm wine tapper business,’’ comments. Following which the Asogli State demanded an apology. The chairman of the elephant family has finally issued an apology.
The apology read:
‘’I write on my own behalf as the National Chairman of the NPP to apologise to Togbe Afede XIV Agbogbomefia State and President of the National House of chiefs for referring to his comments on my 275 buses the constituencies as ‘’a palm wine tapper business comments.’’
I Freddie Blay upon careful thought realize its an insult to the Asogli State and the people of the stat. I also know its bad manners to insult a chief or an elder in public since anyone who is born from home in Ghana must know this. I should have addressed the issue to ally Togbe’s fears. I once again apologize for my comments,’’ it concluded.
