The Ashanti regional branch of governing New Patriotic Party serial callers[Volunteer Media Communication] are embarking on a strike effective today 12th September, 2018.
According to the group made up of 64 members, the Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei Mensah in consultation with Information Minister and the party’s National Communication Directorate directed all the district assemblies in Ashanti to contribute one thousand (1,000) Ghana cedis each month to the welfare of the serial callers.
However, the group says the ruling government including its appointees have all refused to make good of their promise.
This among other issues has forced the group to declare a sit down strike in the region effective today.
Speaking in an interview with Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako, a leading member of the group, Luckman said, “While in opposition the party made several mouth-watering promises to us but were yet to see any of them happen”
He questioned:”How do you expect us to defend government controversial policies and alleged corruption practice on radio with empty stomach while the appointee are busy eating with their both hands”
He again added, “ we are disappointed in the Ashanti regional executives of the party, regional minister and the DCE’s in the region.”
The group with their chairman Wofa Anokye will address a news conference in Kumasi this morning.
The governing party is stricken by series of such protests lately by its serial callers who have complained of being neglected and still struggling after toiling so hard to bring the party to power.
Last week Communicators of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Suhum constituency of the Eastern region served notice of abandoning their roles in the coming days should the party fail to allocate resources for their operations in the constituency.
In a Press Statement released by the group of communicators said: “We fought a lot for the party to win massively and its unprecedented but we are still using our own resources to run the party.”
Per the statement by the group,” Now the party is in power so we can no longer use our resources to run the party again” calling on the Executives of the party to be advised accordingly, else they’ll take the necessary action.
