Residents in the Volta Region town of Ehi near Sogakope will go into the history books of the country as the first community in Ghana to hold a funeral for a 23-year old dog.
The celebration which was held with pomp and pageantry, attracted members from outside Ghana who traveled to the community to witness the historic event
Stephen Atatsithe, its owner said mourners filed past the mortal remains of the historical dog” called Forfoe that was given a befitting sending off.
“The dog 23-years-old belonged to my late mother. It stayed with her for 11 years and it has been 12 years since she passed on.”He revealed.
A 26-page Order of Service with the biography of the dead dog was distributed to mourners who made several donations towards the celebration.
“Somebody donated a cow and another person donated a pig to be killed for the event,” he disclosed but saw nothing wrong in killing other animals for the celebration.
“God has given us dominion over those things [animals].”
