A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of the New Patriotic Party in the Brong Ahafo Region, has pleaded with the Steering Committee tasked to investigate Nana Obiri Boahen, to pardon the embattled Deputy General Secretary for claiming on a tape that presidency gave the party GHS50 billion for its 2017 National Annual Delegates Conference held in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
According to the group, Mr Obiri Boahen has demonstrated enough remorse to merit forgiveness.
Speaking in an interview with Class News, Chairman of the group, Albert Forkuo said Nana Obiri Boahen has fearlessly defended the party for many years, hence the need to temper justice with mercy.
Mr Forkuo said: “He’s [Nana Obiri Boahen] somebody who has followed the party since 1992, he has been one of the strong human resources for the party from 1992 up to this time. He has defended the party, and, so, I think this is a bait or a plot to get Obiri Boahen out of the political scene so that he can’t be defending the party like he has been committed to do. So, we want them to temper justice with mercy, consider his contribution to the party, so that he will be forgiven; that is what we are pleading for…”
Meanwhile, Mr Boahen has, in a statement, rendered an unqualified apology to his party for his unsavory comments.
His apology letter read: “Respectfully, I am by this letter expressing my profound apology to the President, the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the Steering Committee, the National Executives, Council of Elders, the National Executive Committee, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party and every member of the New Patriotic Party for my indication.
“This heavily-doctored and fraudulently voice-mimicked tape, which the contents thereof are untrue; and incorrect ought not to be given any credence and attention.
“I have learnt much lessons from this unfortunate incident, from this heavily edited, secretly recorded and intentionally mutilated audio recording or cassette; I vow not to find myself under such circumstances again. My loyalty and commitment with/to the New Patriotic Party shall ever continue to be resolute and firm. ‘To err is human, and to forgive is divine’ says the sages.
“I hope; this my apology would be accepted by all.”
