Abdul-Malik Kwaku Baako, Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, has said that the presidency violated a confidentiality agreement reached between Jubilee House on one side and investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI company, on the other side, by organising a press conference on the yet-to-be premiered investigative documentary which captured alleged corruption involving Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwasi Nyantakyi.
President Nana Akufo-Addo reported the GFA’s president to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, 22 May 2018, after having been privy to the Number 12 undercover documentary, which captured the FA boss clenching investor deals in the name of the president and vice-president.
Mr Baako said: “I have complained to those who called the press conference. I protested and I gave reasons for my protest and I’m told my protests have been made known to the president”.
Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme on Wednesday, 23 May 2018, Mr Baako, however, stated that: “No fatal injury as such has been caused”, but indicated that he was surprised at the announcement from the presidency since there was an agreement that no such disclosure be made until after the documentary is premiered on 6 June 2018.
The veteran journalist indicated that the project is a joint work between the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Tiger Eye PI.
Tiger Eye PI is a private investigation agency owned by Anas.
“This project, again, is not exclusively Tiger Eye PITiger Eye PI project, it is a joint Tiger Eye-BBC project,” he said.
He said the BBC and Tiger Eye PI had no idea the presidency would report Mr Nyantakyi to the CID after watching a portion of the documentary where he was allegedly captured using the president’s name fraudulently.
Mr Baako said he felt the presidency should have waited until the documentary had been premiered, or informed him and the BBC of their intention to report Mr Nyantakyi to the CID before doing same.
Meanwhile, government has said anybody found guilty in the exposé would be dealt with according to law.
